David Adjaye – Adjaye Associates

David Adjaye (born in 1966) founded Adjaye Associates in June 2000. The firm has offices in London, New York and Accra and has completed projects in Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. In 2007 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services to architecture. Famous for his eclectic materials and colour palette, Adjaye has a democratic approach to architecture and sees design as a stimulus for social aggregation and a catalyst for the birth of new communities.

His interest focuses on the nature of contemporary space and his architecture is more about mankind's relationship with space, new formats and emotions than volumes and lines. David Adjaye has always sought to cross and combine different creative platforms by working together with artists, like Chris Ofili and Olafur Eliasson, and he has also experimented with design for Knoll, Sawaya and Moroni, and Moroso. He also worked together with Okwui Enwezor on his project for the 56th Venice Art Biennial.

His projects include: the Smithsonian National Museum of African-American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington D.C.; the Aishti Foundation complex in Beirut, Lebanon (2015); the Skolkovo School of Management in Moscow; the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, Norway; post-hurricane homes in New Orleans; and the Ideas Store project in London. Adjaye is currently working on the One Berkeley Street project, a mixed-use residential redevelopment in Piccadilly, London; offices for the International Financial Corporation in Dakar, Senegal, and a cultural campus on the site of Tel Aviv’s former central bus station.
