About Project

In 2015, the norvegian head offices of the Nordea Bank were brought together in a single building for the first time ever.
This was achieved by combining and completely renovating two separate buildings in Majorstua. Designed by Niels Torp Architects, these blocks previously housed the Essen Drops Gate 7 and 9 offices and were initially completed in 1998. Now, however, these two blocks have been joined into a single space that can house up to 2,000 employees, with a canteen for approximately 600 people and a modern conference centre. To create it, Nordea launched an architectural competition won by Dark Group who have organised the project by separating the architectural design (completed by Pilot Architects) from the interior design, entrusted to the Zinc Interior Architects studio. The architects’ main tasks were to unify these two separate buildings, both of which have a highly complex layout, and to reorganise their interiors. The result is an open layout with very few partition walls and a number of meeting areas. This complex renovation project has also included a new lighting design. For the general lighting in the transit areas, recessed Laser Blade luminaires have been fitted in the wooden strip false ceilings. Underscore light lines have also been installed to create graphic effects on the corridor ceilings. A series of Primopiano spotlights have also been fitted in the meeting areas to create accent lighting effects on the small refreshment islands. All the luminaires are LED-powered and help reduce energy consumption that is already extremely low thanks to the installation of more efficient heating and ventilation systems.
