Eurasia Tunnel inaugurated in Istanbul
15km under the seabed enlighted by Dean Skira and iGuzzini
From December 20th on , a brand new ,very complex $ 1.3 billion submarine tunnel in Istanbul, links Europe to Asia. Through its irregular path, this infrastructure relieves the pressure on the streets, and therefore noise and pollution.
A public tender was issued for the design of a complementary lighting system that creates a joyful rhytm in the tunnel, for the first time in its class.
- Skira Architectural Lighting design firm won, employing more than 2000 Trick devices, shaping them in order to obtain the desired effects: 5000k light blades together with a blue Ledtube RGB patchwork, recall geometric ornamental figures and traditional elements of the Turkish culture.
The pattern repeats itself throughout the whole tunnel, with varying frequencies and changing design. Some unusual tollbooths complete the setup: some criss-crossed steel arches both at the start and the end of the tunnel reproduce via Linealuce RGB projection the same motif we find in the interior of it.
iGuzzini distributor Kitoko played a major role in this project.
