iGuzzini at the 2020 Expo

iGuzzini illuminazione and its lighting solutions are present in a number of exhibition pavilions and open spaces at the Universal Exhibition that is being held for the first time ever in an Arab country.
 “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” is the theme of the exhibition. With the aim of bringing together the 191 participating nations, the exhibition focuses on three main themes: opportunity, as in the potential of individuals and communities to create a better future; mobility, as in innovative logistics, transport and communication systems, and sustainability, in the sense of the “resilience” and accessibility of energy, water and environmental resources.

iGuzzini features in a number of exhibition pavilions at the Universal Exhibition in Dubai, including:
 

• UAE Pavilion. Architectural design: Santiago Calatrava; Lighting design:  Kardorff Ingenieure. Based on a falcon in flight, the host country’s pavilion covers 4 floors that display the history, culture and future goals of the United Arab Emirates.
• Alif - The Mobility Pavilion. Architectural design: Foster + Partner; Lighting design: DAL and Delta Lighting Design. The pavilion includes the largest lift in the world that can carry up to 160 people and features numerous state-of-the-art mobility devices. 
• Baden-Württemberg Pavilion. Architectural design: NÜSSLI Adunic AG aus Hüttwilen Schweiz; Lighting design: Maierlighting. This pavilion displays pioneering and sustainable ideas for future constructions. The structure’s main complex seems to float above the ground, and is created using innovative, cutting-edge materials that help reduce CO2.
• Sweden Pavilion. Architectural design: Alessandro Ripellino; Lighting design: INCOORD. Here, iGuzzini is the technical sponsor of a pavilion that seeks to merge the woodlands of Northern Europe with Islamic culture. The aim is to display a smart society based on a circular economy thanks to technology, science, transport and latest generation materials and industry 4.0.

In addition to these pavilions, iGuzzini lighting solutions have also been installed in a range of open spaces, including the central hub Al Wasl Plaza that connects the three thematic districts to other main trails, the Dubai subway and the UAE pavilion. This area was created by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture in collaboration with OVI for the lighting design. The C38 District that features large, public spaces including water games, restaurants and other facilities for visitors, is designed by SWA US and OVI. The Al Forsan and Jubilee parks, were also created by SWA with the help of LDPi for the lighting design.
The Dubai South Mall, designed by EMAAR with a lighting system created by DPA Lighting Design; the 2020 Arrival Plaza designed by Cracknell and A&D and the Public Realm designed by AECOM, all of which are large areas dedicated to services and relaxation.

Last of all, iGuzzini luminaires are installed in the Thematic Districts that host 86 permanent buildings distributed in “3 petals” as well as the pavilions of all the participant nations. Every petal has a special and unique character, designed with different shapes, landscapes and colours that reflect the three themes of the 2020 Dubai Expo: opportunity, mobility and sustainability. These districts that conclude the World Expo will become a campus and are characterised by a series of tree-lined avenues and gardens. The project is designed by Hopkins Architects with the help of the lighting designers, Speirs + Majors.

This geographical area is strategically important for iGuzzini in terms of international expansion. We want to create a significant, consolidated presence in the rapidly growing market of the Middle East and guarantee our local partners all the backup they need.
