The new Tottenham Court Road station

Infrastructure

We worked closely with iGuzzini to ensure that the light fittings not only met the correct lux levels on the floor, but also the perfect lighting effect. Through a series of trials we adjusted the height of the MaxiWoody fitting within the drum to ensure an optimum amount of light that caught the chamfer of the drums and allowed a kind of soft, subtle glow when looking at the drums through the ticket office. We needed to improve the overall acoustic performance of the station, so the external stainless steel cladding is perforated to allow sound absorption. The illuminated drums not only act as a light source, but also contribute to improving the intelligibility of the passenger announcement system.
