The lighting design community, the Lighting Design Awards and iGuzzini are teaming up to help tackle the scourge of contaminated water in Africa, as a way to give back to the community as well as to celebrate two wonderful events: the 2018 edition of the Lighting Design Awards and the inaugural International Day of Light.
A social media campaign (read how to participate below), running throughout April and the first half of May, and culminating with the Lighting Design Awards 2018 presentations evening on Thursday 3 May and the inaugural International Day of Light on 16 May, will both raise awareness of the issue and help alleviate the problem with practical help.
1 picture posted = 1000 water purification tablets donated
Created in consultation with Unicef, the campaign is dubbed Liquid Light. Lighting designers are invited to post an image showing the interaction of light and water. For each such picture posted during the period 2 April - 3 May on either Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn, 1,000 water purification tablets will be donated to a community in need of clean water. The target is to generate a shipment of half a million such tablets. Between 3 - 16 May, photographs can still be submitted in celebration of the International Day of Light.
Win a stunning PizzaKobra!
As part of the campaign, lighting designers can win an office pizza voucher every week during the run-up to the International Day of Light on 16 May. The picture generating the highest level of engagement each week will receive a special #pizzafriday voucher from iGuzzini, and the best overall picture will win a stunning PizzaKobra, the sculptural iGuzzini desk light created by Ron Arad. This will be awarded to the photograph that manages to gain the strongest overall engagement, on 16 May, the International Day of Light.
