A new use for Casa Fischer

In Almeria, the villas and farmsteads used as both holiday homes and permanent residences are often constructed in a fascinating architectural style, and Casa Fischer is a perfect example.

The house features an eclectic collection of architectural styles including both historic and modernist features. On the outside of the house, there are only a few modernist elements, like the railings, hand rails and the decorative frieze that connects and outlines the openings in the facade. But in the interiors these features become a powerful artistic statement of exuberant curves and colours with floral and other motifs that conjure up a sense of nature.

The house has recently been renovated and adapted to house the Andalusia Women’s Institute (Instituto Andaluz de la Mujer). And a fundamental goal of the project was the restoration of the frescoes and polychrome and wooden decorations, as well as the original banisters and floors. The central patio, covered by a glass roof, is the feature around which the plan of the building is based. The glass allows natural sunshine to enter, which is then complemented by artificial light. The atmosphere created by the general lighting system is a combination of diffused light supplied by the Y Light system with up/down emission and highlighting provided by Radial suspensions. These luminaires were chosen on account of their rapid, easy installation and their neutral form and ability to blend in with the internal decor.
For the external lighting Pencil bollards have been used as they produce a pleasant diffused light effect.
