On 13 September 2024, the completion of the second tunnel of the Učka Tunnel, an important connection between the Istrian peninsula and continental Croatia, was inaugurated in the presence of the Prime Minister of Croatia.
The Skira Lighting Design studio was entrusted not only with the task of lighting this infrastructure, but also with the task of defining, on the Istrian side of the tunnel, the surprising Corten steel curtain wall, evoking the red and dry earth, characteristic of the Istrian landscape. Here the grazing light produced by Linealuce 47 and Underscore In Out with a colour temperature of 2700K, inspired by the earthy tones of the region, interacts with this texture creating a feeling of warmth and solidity.
On this side of the tunnel, all around the entrance, work was done on the vegetation too, planting new shrubs that will be appropriately enhanced by Palco InOut and iPro projectors.
In addition to the tunnel, the administration and control building is also bathed in light thanks to spotlights simulating ten different scenarios, reflecting the four seasons, the region's typical winds - Bura and Jugo - and winter snowfall.
These lighting scenarios alternate automatically, (but can also be operated manually) every evening until midnight or 10 p.m. during the winter months, in accordance with the rhythm of the surroundings and the weather conditions.
