About Project

In October 2020 Automobili Lamborghini opened its Lounge Tokyo in the city’s Roppongi district. This is the second venue of its kind after New York in the United States. The interior features a permanent Ad Personam studio where clients can personalize the colours and all the interior and exterior details of their new Lamborghini.

At the opening, Lamborghini also presented its new collaboration with the fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto. The Lounge was the ideal setting for unveiling both the Lamborghini Aventador S “dressed” by Yohji Yamamoto, and a co-branded capsule collection consisting of three unique garments: a mod coat, bomber jacket and hoodie sweatshirt.

Mitja Borkert, Head of Design for Automobili Lamborghini, met Yohji Yamamoto at the Paris Fashion Week in January 2020 and was extremely impressed by the style of the contrasting red and black in the collection presented. Taking inspiration from the Paris collection, the Lamborghini Centro Stile imagined the iconic Aventador S as a canvas to be painted on. In this new Aventador, Marcello Gandini’s distinctive lines that characterize every Lamborghini are clearly visible and enhanced by patterns selected from Yamamoto’s fashion collection, which also appear in the Aventador S’s interior.

Lounge Tokyo’s ground floor provides an initial introduction to Lamborghini lifestyle, as well as being the place where new Lamborghinis are personally handed over to their owners. The second and third floors, on the other hand, offer exceptional locations for both business and private event and meetings in which an exclusive experience of the unique style and design of this legendary automotive brand is guaranteed to all. The Lounge will also open to the public for special activities such as exhibitions or art shows.

The artificial lighting designed for these spaces was based on two key requirements. Given that this space, and especially the Ad Personam studio, has a rich selection of colours and materials, the luminaires had to illuminate without being seen. Hence the widespread use of the 5-cell Laser Blade XS. In the table area, a recessed version of this luminaire is used, whereas in the Low Voltage tracks that run along the walls, a wall washer version has been combined with Palco projectors.

This solution also satisfies another requirement. Namely, that of guaranteeing the flexibility needed for altering the position of the spotlights if the layout of the elements located on the walls is changed.

Another characteristic of these spaces is the use of Underscore inOut light lines that are installed in the ceiling and create Lamborghini design patterns, including the hexagon. Katia Bassi, Chief Marketing and Communication Officer for Automobili Lamborghini commented: “We created this lounge because we are designers of experiences, and we want guests to enjoy a real Italian Lamborghini feeling in this space: a little piece of the soul of Sant’Agata Bolognese in the heart of Tokyo.” This feeling is particularly created by the Underscore inOut luminaires, which in their RGB version reproduce the colours of the Italian flag in the salons where guests are asked to wait.
