Bauhaus 100: learning, doing, thinking

Macerata celebrates the centenary of the Bauhaus foundation with a widespread exhibition

One hundred years after its foundation, the Bauhaus continues to have influence in the 20th century, stimulating the debate in the organization and definition of the 'material culture'. For this reason, Bauhaus 100: learning, doing, thinking - the exhibition curated by Aldo Colonetti, organized by Sistema Museo and promoted by the Marche Region, Municipality of Macerata and Macerata Musei - wants to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the German school foundation through an exhibition project located in various areas of Macerata. From 19 July to 3 November, the civic museum of Palazzo Buonaccorsi hosts the historical documents of Italo Rota precious collection, the artworks of the artists Alfredo Bortoluzzi and Ivo Pannaggi - painter and architect born in Macerata and enrolled in the Weimar school - and the installations selected by the MEET digital culture centre. Throughout the period, visitors can also admire the photographic journey in the Marche industrial landscape at Palazzo Pellicani Silvestri and the covers of the cultural magazine ‘La Lettura’ by Corriere della Sera at the Mozzi Borgetti civic library. There are also numerous activities and side events, such as the ADI MAM series of conferences that will take place from September to November in different Marche cities and whose program will be available here.

iGuzzini - technical sponsor of the initiative - illuminated some of the spaces for the Bauhaus 100 exhibition, including that of Palazzo Buonaccorsi, where the Underscore InOut RGB luminaires create a suggestive light installation inspired by the colours of the School, directed by Walter Gropius. In addition, Isola, iPro and Front Light guarantee general lighting for the common areas of Palazzo Pellicani Silvestri, former seat of the Bank of Italy.

To find out more about the Bauhaus, read the interview with Italo Rota in Lighthinking - the online magazine resulting from the creative synergy between iGuzzini and Holden Studios by Scuola Holden for a new reading of light.
