Art Light Flags

Campanile di San Marco, Venice

iGuzzini’s Light Meets Mario Arlati’s Art

From Friday November 30, the bell tower in Piazza San Marco - a city’s symbol of excellence - will be illuminated by the colourful flags by Mario Arlati interpreted as a new artistic message by the artist.

Mario Arlati has established himself in the contemporary art scene for his celebrated understanding and material use of color. Through an informal language, he manipulates and transforms the banal and obsolete existence of old fabrics and everyday objects into extraordinary works of art.

Embedding itself within the heart of the historical center, the installation interacts with the public.  It is a symbiosis of artwork and environment, merging Venice’s cultural heritage with contemporary artistic expression, reiterating the city as an international crossroad between traditional and contemporary forms of creative expression.

iGuzzini, having always been committed to the promotion of light as a tool for social innovation, is proud to have collaborated on this project that once again confirms the importance of Arlati’s research on light, colour and their combined ability to stimulate our visual and sensory perception.

The Art Light Flags project is proudly organized by the Piazza San Marco Association  in collaboration with the Contini Art Gallery, the City of Venice, Vela Spa and iGuzzini as part of the city’s 2018 Christmas festival. A particular thanks goes to the Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape Heritage Office for the City of Venice and the Lagoon, the Board of Directors of the Archaeological Museum, the Director of the Correr Museum and the Office of the Attorney of San Marco.

After the inauguration on November 30th, the installation will be visible every evening from 4 PM to 1 AM until January 6th, 2019.
