Big Green Egg is a synonym for Kamado barbecues, on account of their distinctive egg shape, and the company’s new headquarters in De Lier, which has been created as a meeting point aimed, not at the end customer, but at European importers. The building features an open-plan work environment where people work side by side and includes a carefully designed outdoor area that is essential for demonstrating this type of product. The architectural design is a pure volume, two-floor dark cube with alternating brick walls and glass surfaces through which indoor and outdoor spaces interact.

At the centre of the cube there is a patio, and at the centre of the patio stands a tree that offers shade in the summer. An office area and reception rooms patio lead onto the patio. Continuity between the indoor and outdoor areas is created by using the same material for the floors and the presence of a green wall inside the hall. The lighting system designed by Beersnielsen lichtontwerpers follows the spiral flow of the spaces around the garden. When the spiral turns towards the offices, the lighting is more uniform and has a slightly colder colour temperature. In the large hall and reception offices, Laser Blade XL recessed luminaires guarantee homogeneous lighting, and circular effects are created on the floor by using a warmer colour temperature than the other rooms.
