The former Technical School is a building that was designed in 1915 and is part of the Pyynikinrinne district of Tampere, which had been built from the beginning of the 20th century along Art Noveau lines.
The building was initially designed by Richard Björnberg, an architect who was a member of the National Council of Public Buildings, and later extended in the early 1930s according to the designs of Hjalmar Åberg, with a layout reminiscent of the Neoclassical style
The building was used from the beginning, for teaching, initially housing the University of Applied Sciences and the Tampere Industrial School, which was founded in 1923 and was then used by the University until 2003. It is not a protected building, but according to the Tampere City Planning Unit, it is a very important site in terms of architectural art, cultural history and urban landscape.
The new lighting worked on during 2023 is designed to enhance the architecture of the façade. Underscore top bend luminaires continuously emphasise the entire length of the façades and create a gradient from top to bottom on the vertical walls. The same luminaires are also used to emphasise the scanning of the windows, while Linealuce Mini 47 luminaires were used to illuminate with wall grazing effect from the bottom upwards and highlight the texture of the half pilasters and other masonry parts. The temperature chosen is 2700 K to emphasise the warm colour of the material used for the façades.
