The municipality of Tuttlingen has expanded its town hall by constructing a new building on the former industrial site of the Rieker company in the western part of the city.
The town is characterised by its distinctive, classical town plan that dictated its 1804 reconstruction project supervised by the master builder Carl von Uber. The existing building, designed by Günter Herrmann Architekten in 1993, is also based on this classical plan and occupies the south-western fringe of the premises while leaving the north-eastern side free. This is the empty area filled by Beer Bembé Dellinger's design.
The location of the new block, which covers the entire former industrial site, has created a public space along the water basin in front of the main entrances and welcomes visitors coming from the Bahnhofstraße.
The foundation stone was laid on 17 April 2019. The project adds 330 work stations and an underground car park to the town hall and will incorporate the municipality’s 13 branch offices in a single location.
Beer Bembé Dellinger Architects designed the building using light, innovative solutions that do not weigh on the load-bearing structure. KREBS+KIEFER have also developed a load-bearing façade made of pre-cast reinforced concrete elements that create a lot of shade.
The luminaires used in the shared spaces are part of this vision of essentiality. Laser Blade L luminaires have been installed on the wooden ceilings in the corridors and waiting rooms where seating has been included. Front Light floodlights have been fitted on the walls of the exposed concrete parts of the building that emit light from above all the way down the building.
