iGuzzini at the Festival of Lights in Lyon

6 - 9 December

The Bartholdi fountain in Place des Terreaux ‘returns to its origins’ through lighting.

The initiatives for celebrating the iconic Festival of Lights in Lyon continue. In four nights from 6 to 9 December, technological innovation combines with folk traditions to transform the city with original and creative light shows. This festival is an opportunity to discover and rediscover the hidden and more iconic corners of the city, such as Place Bellecour (the largest pedestrian square in Europe), the historic district of Antiquaille, the Roman theatre of Fourvière and the central square, the Place des Terreaux.

The iGuzzini showroom in Lyons is located in Place des Terreaux and during the event it will welcome architects, planners and designers to enjoy a privileged view of the “Retour aux Sources” show, the lighting concept designed by iGuzzini for Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi’s fountain. This emotional installation offers spectators an immersive, dreamlike experience that enhances the nineteenth century masterpiece, which has recently been restored to its original splendour. The square is illuminated by MaxiWoody and Palco InOut projectors that highlight the sculpture of the goddess Amphitrite at the centre of the fountain, while waves of blue light, created by hidden Woody projectors, originate from the façade of the building at number 6 and wash over the entire scene.

The result of a close collaboration between Aubrilam, Citeos and the Guzzini brothers, “Retour aux Sources” is the first light installation created by iGuzzini for the Festival of Lights in Lyon.
