iGuzzini illuminates the CERN Science Gateway

The new Science Gateway of CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Geneva, conceived by Renzo Piano with the support of Brodbeck-Roulet architectes associés, was inaugurated. The opening ceremony was attended by CERN General Manager Fabiola Gianotti, Stellantis President John Elkann, and architect Piano.

We are honoured to have worked with Arup on the lighting of an iconic structure of education and scientific awareness that aims to inspire new generations of scientists and researchers. Among the luminaires used to light the exteriors are maxiwoody, Palco InOut, Lander Bollard, special versions of Lingotto and iRoll. For interiors, Trick, Stage, iN90, Front Light.

The CERN Science Gateway is an integral part of CERN’s outreach activities and collaborates with other international scientific and educational institutions to reach a global audience. Its architecture is inspired by the technical installations and underground tunnels of CERN.

Five different buildings host exhibitions, practical workshops, a large auditorium, a shop and a restaurant, all connected by a bridge that will stand 6 meters above the ground. Thanks to more than 2000 square meters of solar panels and the 400-tree forest that surrounds it, Science Gateway is emission-free for the environment.

Visitors can participate in educational workshops to better understand the world of particle physics, the technologies used in CERN laboratories and the latest scientific findings.
