Königsplatz Station

About Project

The Königsplatz revitalization project in Augsburg included the construction of a new bus and tram station that has in no time at all become city's most important traffic node with a traffic flow of about 100,000 passengers a day. The lighting concept was designed to exploit the properties of LED technology and guarantee the correct lighting of the main structure, areas and waiting platforms.

The general lighting system achieves a uniform, no dazzle effect thanks to LED Reflex Easy luminaires recessed in the central part of the building to illuminate the waiting room. To guarantee both the safety and comfort of waiting passengers, iGuzzini Linealuce luminaires have been used to light the covered waiting areas. The distinctive triangular shape of the central part of the building is highlighted at night by a blue light produced by RGB LED Compact Linealuce luminaires controlled by a Master Pro system.

Various pedestrian walkways cross the tracks. To obtain a lighting system that is easy on the eye and at the same time perfectly uniform, small body UFO luminaires with asymmetrical optics have been installed. This product is particularly suited to areas with an irregular shape like the tram and bus station in Augsburg.

In China, the project was named as one of the Global SSL Showcase Top 100. The list was drawn up by ISA (International SSL Alliance), an association that aims to promote the sustainable development of lighting industries. The jury decided to showcase the Konigsplatz project for its “’innovation and functionality, and its  perfect combination of design and technology that is the result of a constant research into top quality not only of products, but also of a lighting system that respects human presence”.
