iGuzzini has been awarded the
Red Dot Award – one of the most important design accolades in the world – for the third consecutive time. Established in 1954, the German award organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen aims to reward the best product and the best project of the year. The awards will be presented on 9 July 2018 during an evening gala held at the Aalto Theatre in Essen, Germany. Following this, Walky will be exhibited in the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, one of the largest design museums in the world.
Walky, the new collection of miniaturised luminaires, has won the “Product Design” category through its highly innovative technology and refined design available in a variety of shapes (round, square, and rectangular). Designed for outdoor spaces, Walky luminaires – available in a white, grey, and rust-brown finish – are suitable for recessed or surface-mounted installations, being available in different sizes (from 45mm), and offering luminous flux levels ranging from 270 to 1800 lumens. The miniaturisation, a distinctive feature of Walky appliques, applies to both the luminaire and to its components. The latest generation of LED technology together with materials, optics, and application development, have allowed iGuzzini to use every single millimetre of the product body, eliminating any superfluous space.
The innovative product range, launched at Light+Building 2018, has already received the
Design Plus Award promoted by the German Council, during the aforementioned trade fair. Through the Walky product family, iGuzzini succeeded to transfer its vertical lighting expertise into horizontal lighting.
In 2016, iGuzzini won the Red Dot Award with the pole-top version of
Fiamma, designed by Michele de Lucchi for the redevelopment of Palazzo Litta; in 2017 iGuzzini received the award for
View, spotlight designed in collaboration with Arup, and for
Lander, originally designed by Renzo Piano as a custom bollard for the illumination of the park home to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre in Athens.
